Someone wise once said, “Mothers make the world go around.” And, it’s true. Where would we be without moms? They love us, they take care of us, they listen to us, and they point us in the right direction. They stay up all night with us, they wipe our behinds, they clean our snotty faces – you get it. Moms do a whole lot. Therefore, it is important to show your mom how much she means to you on the one holiday of the year especially made for her – Mother’s Day.
It can be overwhelming trying to find the perfect gift or the best way to celebrate the woman that means so much to you, but it is not impossible. While all moms are different, they do share a few things in common. On Mother’s Day, they want you to show you love them and you see all they have done for you (or your children, dads).
As a mom of little ones, these are a few things that I know would bring me (and my other mom friends) immense joy.
Let me be honest. I love my children, but I am so very tired. This is why I am begging you just to let me sleep in or take a nap on Mother’s Day. This is a free and easy way to show me you love me, and you know how exhausting being a mom can be. Put the kids in the minivan and give me a few hours to sleep in the peace and quiet. Trust me; I will love you for this gift of sleep and quiet time.
Mother’s Day Brunches are a fantastic way to celebrate mom. Moms love to be served a delicious meal and mimosas while being surrounded by the people she created, and she loves the most. To make it easy, you can invite all the family and plan for a Mother’s Day Brunch using apps like fotobooks. With the app, you can set up all the event details, plus keep a running commentary of comments and pictures from guests.
Once again, what most moms really want is time to themselves. But, even better than just peace in quiet in their homes, is a trip to the spa. Having someone else take care of them for a bit feels luxurious – especially to moms who are covered in children 24/7. If you can’t afford a full spa day, sending her out for a pedicure may be all she needs. Even better: treat her to some TLC by giving her a pedicure yourself.
Some moms feel the most loved when someone recognizes all the hard work they put into making a house a home. In other words, show your appreciation by doing all she does around the house. It will give her a nice break from cleaning the house and changing diapers, and it will earn you some brownie points. Special tip – if your budget allows, hire a cleaning service.
Finally, presents do matter – but only the ones that come from the heart. If you choose to do any of the above, you may not even need to get an additional present. However, if you choose to give her a present, choose a gift that is memorable and meaningful. For instance, the fotobooks app we mentioned for planning a Mother’s Day Brunch can also be used to for making a photo book of pictures from memorable occasions. Additionally, while flowers, jewelry, and chocolates are always welcomed Mother’s gifts, handmade gifts from the kids will be treasured just as much (or even more).
